Eligibility Criteria: Are You Qualified?
Before proceeding to the application, candidates must ensure they meet the specific eligibility requirements set by the Department of Posts.
1. Age Limit
- The minimum age requirement is 18 years, and the maximum age limit is 40 years.
- Age will be determined as on the last date of submission of applications.
- Relaxations in the upper age limit are permissible for reserved categories: 5 years for SC/ST, 3 years for OBC, and up to 10-15 years for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD).
- There is no age relaxation for Economically Weaker Sections (EWS).
2. Educational Qualifications
- Applicants must possess a Secondary School Examination (SSE) pass certificate of 10th standard.
- Candidates must have passing marks in Mathematics and English.
- The certificate must be conducted by any recognized Board of School Education by the Government of India, State Governments, or Union Territories.
- Crucially, the applicant should have studied the local language at least up to the 10th Standard from a recognized board.
3. Additional Requirements
- Candidates must have knowledge of computers.
- Knowledge of cycling is a mandatory requirement.
- Applicants must possess adequate means of livelihood, as a Sevak should have another source of income besides the government allowances to adequately support themselves and their family.
Job Profiles and Salary Details
The GDS roles are dynamic and highly respected in rural communities. It is important to understand that GDSs are not regular employees of the Department or Central Government, and they hold Civil Posts outside the regular civil services of the state. They are paid emoluments in the form of a Time Related Continuity Allowance (TRCA).
Branch Postmaster (BPM)
The BPM is responsible for the day-to-day postal operations of the Branch Post Office (B.O.) and India Post Payments Bank (IPPB). They also handle marketing and promotions of products and services, and operate various services in the customer service centres (CSC). Candidates selected as BPMs are required to arrange accommodation for running the post office at their own cost.

Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM) & Dak Sevak
ABPMs are tasked with the sale of stamps and stationery, conveyance, and delivery of mail at the doorstep. They assist the BPM in postal operations and marketing. Dak Sevaks may work in Post Offices, Sorting Offices, Mail Offices, or Delivery Centres, handling mail bags, parcels, and assisting senior officers.
Basic TRCA Slab: Rs.10,000/- to Rs.24,470/-
Selection Process
No Exams Needed! Applicants will be shortlisted for engagement on the basis of a system-generated merit list. The merit list will be prepared based on marks obtained (or conversion of Grades/Points to marks) in the Secondary School Examination of 10th standard. These marks will be aggregated to a percentage accurate to 4 decimals. For applicants having only grades, subject-wise marks will be calculated by applying a multiplying factor of 9.5.
Application Fee Details
- A nominal fee of Rs.100 is required to be paid by the applicants for all posts notified in the choice of Division.
- Exemptions: The payment of the fee is completely exempted for all female applicants, SC/ST applicants, PwBD applicants, and Transwomen applicants.

The application process is strictly online. Applications received from any other mode shall not be entertained. Only one registration is permitted per candidate. Candidates must not upload any documents along with the application form, but they must upload their recent photograph and signature on the portal.
